A highly successful 3rd Pan-European Duck Symposium recently took place in Jindrichuv Hradec in the Czech Republic. The symposium was attended by 67 people from 18 European countries as well as others from Chile, Morocco and the USA. An enjoyable field excursion was also made to Trebon Biosphere Reserve. The success of the symposium was due to the excellent organisation of Petr Musil and his team, to whom we offer great thanks.
During the symposium, DSG members compiled the Jindrichuv Hradec statement which highlights the current key issues for duck conservation and management in Europe based upon the key conclusions made by delegates. This was circulated on 8 May 2012 to AEWA, ORNIS and Ramsar representatives and will serve as a useful benchmark of progress when we meet again at PEDS4.
