The Duck Specialist Group holds personal data in order to maintain contact with members so that they can fully participate in the fulfilment of the DSG’s objectives. Personal data are not held for any other reasons, no automated processing of personal data is carried out, and no personal data are held for anyone that is not a member of the DSG. Membership is renewed every four years, following the IUCN SSC 4-year programmes. Name and email data for all members are shared with our affiliate organisations, Wetlands International and IUCN SSC, and all DSG members are enrolled to the DSG forum (an email based forum operated through Mailman for which an unsubscribe option is available).

Individual members can update or withdraw their consent at any time, for individual channels of communication, or for all channels, by contacting the DSG Secretariat. Individuals have the right to request at any time the information DSG holds about them, as subject access requests. Depending on the nature of the request, DSG may seek a form of identification to verify the identity of the person making it. The information will be supplied within 30 calendar days of the request or the verification, whichever is the later. If individuals believe the information DSG holds about them is incorrect or incomplete, they have the right to ask for it be corrected. DSG must respond within one month of the request being received. Individuals have the right to ask DSG to stop processing their personal data, and to have personal data erased. If individuals believe they have suffered damage because DSG has behaved in breach of Data Protection law, they are entitled to claim compensation. This right can only be enforced through the courts. The law allows DSG to defend a claim for compensation on the basis that the organisation took all reasonable care in the circumstances to avoid the breach, that is, by complying with Data Protection legislation when processing data.
