Data portals and sources
A number of online data portals contain data on European seaducks, including those below:
European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet): A project website that provides information on the biological project of the European Marine Observation and Data Network and provides access to the marine biological data portal and metadata catalogue.
HELCOM data and map service: this website provides access to HELCOM (Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – Helsinki Commission) datasets.
International Waterbird Census (IWC): a global monitoring scheme organised by Wetlands International
JNCC Seabird at Sea database: data from aerial and boat surveys of seabirds and cetaceans conducted by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee’s (JNCC) Seabird at Sea Team.
Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN): the MEDIN website provides access to marine data collected in the UK via a meta database of marine projects (the United Kingdom Directory of Marine Observing Systems; UKDMOS).
Marine IBA e-Atlas: mapping tool for global marine Important Bird Areas.
Movebank: an online database of animal tracking data hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology.
NBN Gateway: the National Biodiversity Network’s Gateway is a portal for exploring UK biodiversity data.
OBIS-SEAMAP: the Ocean Biogeographic Information System Spatial Ecological Analysis of Megavertebrate Populations is a spatially referenced online database, aggregating marine mammal, seabird and sea turtle observation data from across the globe.
The Crown Estate Marine Data Exchange: The Marine Data Exchange provides access to data and reports from surveys carried out during the planning, building and operating of offshore renewable energy projects in UK waters.
A number of online data sources for seabirds, which include some seaducks, are listed by the World Seabird Union.
