Marine Waterbird Working Group
The Marine Waterbird Working Group (MWWG) was established in 2015 in response to concerns about the status of some European seaduck populations and the lack of basic knowledge about their status. The MWWG aims to stimulate and coordinate monitoring and other surveillance of seaducks and other waterbirds wintering at sea in order to underpin their conservation and management.
The MWWG is affiliated to the African-Eurasian Waterbird Monitoring Partnership (AEWMP), which oversees the International Waterbird Census in Africa and Europe. We also work closely with the European Seaduck International Working Group of the African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbird Agreement (AEWA).
Key activities undertaken to date are outlined here. These have been supported financially by the German government, through AEWA, and the Wetlands International Europe Association.
